Stainless Steel Jewellery is superior (especially in Singapore)

When choosing jewellery for everyday wear, material matters more than most people realise. In a climate like Singapore’s, where humidity levels remain high all year round, not all metals are built to last.
At Monserene, we choose stainless steel deliberately. Here is why.
Built for Singapore’s Humid Climate
Singapore’s tropical weather means constant exposure to moisture, perspiration, and sudden rain. Over time, this accelerates tarnishing and corrosion in many common fashion jewellery materials (eg. Brass, Copper).
Stainless steel performs differently.
It contains chromium, which forms a protective layer on the surface of the metal. This invisible barrier helps prevent rust and corrosion, allowing the jewellery to maintain its shine and structure even with daily wear.
For a country where jewellery is worn through commutes, long workdays, and weekend outings by the sea, durability is essential. We believe every jewellery piece should be able to last through rain, shine and especially sweat.
Why We Use 316L Stainless Steel
Not all stainless steel is the same.
At Monserene, we use 316L stainless steel, also known as surgical grade steel. Compared to the more commonly used 304 stainless steel, 316L contains molybdenum, which significantly improves corrosion resistance.
This makes it:
More resistant to humidity and seawater
Better suited for everyday wear
Less likely to cause skin irritation
Ideal for sensitive skin
While 304 stainless steel is more affordable and suitable for casual, less exposed jewellery, 316L offers superior performance in tropical climates like Singapore’s.
For us, it is about creating pieces that can truly keep up with daily life.
Waterproof, Tarnish Resistant, Hypoallergenic
One of the most common questions we receive is whether our jewellery can be worn daily.
The answer is yes.
316L stainless steel is naturally resistant to rust and tarnish. It does not easily oxidise like silver or low quality plated metals. It is also hypoallergenic, making it a comfortable choice for those with sensitive skin.
While minor surface scratches may occur over time with regular wear, the core structure and colour remain intact.
Long Lasting Value
Choosing better materials is not just about aesthetics. It is also about longevity.
Jewellery that resists tarnish and corrosion requires less frequent replacement. This makes stainless steel a more sustainable and cost effective option over time.
Instead of replacing faded pieces every few months, you can invest in jewellery designed to endure.
Designed for Everyday Moments
Jewellery should move with you. It should withstand humidity, perspiration, and long days without constant maintenance.
That is why stainless steel is at the foundation of Monserene’s collections. It allows us to create pieces that balance durability, comfort, and timeless design.
In a climate like Singapore’s, stainless steel is not just practical. It is essential.
